Scribble Might

A fresh perspective on the personal and political.

It’s a wonder… March 17, 2011

These past few days, I feel bombarded by realities that are, and are not, my own. Israel, Palestine, the stifling of debate on Middle East peace issues here at home and efforts to overcome them; earthquakes, tsunamis and nuclear disaster in Japan – tragedy on a scale we have likely never witnessed; whiteness and racism rearing it’s ugly head once again, this time from a student at UCLA, to remind us we have yet to deal with race well at all.

Amidst all this, I wake up, eat, shower, go to work, run errands and exercise, and even find time to laugh, to make love, to relax. How any of us move from one day to the next seems like such a crazy act of faith and boldness when life teems with such overwhelming pulses of rage and destruction and ignorance.
